Accessibility

A large share of the people who use this site are over 65, or are family members reading in a hurry on a phone. Accessibility is therefore a core requirement of the build rather than an audit performed afterwards.

The standard we build to

This site targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA. In practice that means text contrast of at least 4.5:1, full keyboard operability with a visible focus indicator, correct heading structure and landmarks, touch targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels, and form fields with properly associated labels and error messages.

Text size

A text size control sits in the site header and scales the whole interface, not just body copy. Your choice is remembered on your device. Browser zoom to 200% is also supported without loss of content or function.

Motion

If your device is set to reduce motion, this site honours that setting and disables animation and smooth scrolling.

Assessment tools

The screening tools under Resources are fully keyboard operable and can be completed without a mouse or touchscreen.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, we want to know. Get in touch through the contact page and describe what happened — reports of specific barriers are far more useful to us than general feedback, and we treat them as defects.
