Function

Frailty Prevention

Strength, mobility and balance — the practical basis of independence.

Frailty is not an inevitable consequence of age, and it responds to intervention. This program measures the things independence rests on and works on them directly, ideally long before they become limiting.

What it involves

  • Measurement of strength, balance and walking speed
  • Falls risk assessment
  • Nutrition review, with attention to protein
  • A specific strength and balance plan
  • Home environment review where useful

Coverage

Insured and uninsured components

This program combines insured and uninsured components. Insured physician services and any medically necessary investigations are billed to MSP as usual. The uninsured components — assessment depth beyond what MSP covers, planning, coordination and ongoing monitoring — are covered by your membership.

This program does not guarantee access to or replace a General Practitioner, Family Physician, or any Medical Service Plan (MSP) insured primary care services. It also does not provide expedited access to MSP-covered laboratory tests, diagnostic investigations, or specialist referrals.

How to access this program

Whether this program is clinically appropriate for you is a decision made with your physician after assessment. Membership does not imply that every program will form part of your plan.
